Northwood warmed up for Monday night’s big FA Youth Cup fixture at Camberley with this emphatic victory over a poor Barnet side in the Ryman Youth League.

With Gbenga Adelana suspended and both Jonas Charles and Julian Cole ruled out with injury, the Woods brought in Daniel Long and Callum Wright for their first starts of the season, while Chezney Cassell returned in goal having recovered from a hand injury.

The Woods looked to make a good start to the game and Romaine Walker had already headed wide from a free header when he opened the scoring on ten minutes. Wright intercepted a clearance and though his first touch wasn’t the best, he recovered to knock a fine cross over to the far post and Zain Kahn cut the ball back for Walker to thrash it home.

Kahn was enjoying a fine game down the right flank and he latched onto a good ball down the line from Liam McGrath to beat his marker and knock in a superb cross which was headed home by Wright to make it 2-0 after 23 minutes. It was almost three fifteen minutes later when Walker fired a powerful free-kick which looked goalbound until Barnet goalkeeper George Connolly just managed to touch the ball onto the bar and over.

From the resulting Kahn corner a great strike from Wright was blocked on the line by some brave defending and the next one presented Sean Hollowed with a good opportunity but he headed over the bar. Jordan Douglas was also denied by Connolly just before half-time as the Bees just kept themselves in the game.

Northwood continued to dominate after the break and were able to bring on a series of substitutes without really allowing Barnet any prospect of getting back into the match but it was not until the 68th minute that they went further ahead. Walker’s dance into the penalty-box was ended by a clear trip and it was Kahn who knocked in the resulting spot-kick.

Barnet were rocked by two further goals inside three minutes late in the game. McGrath’s crossfield pass played Kahn in on goal and he notched his second with a cracking drive which the ‘keeper could not keep out despite getting a hand to it. Then, a long ball from substitute Youcef Ouyahia, launched Walker on another run and he shook off the attentions of his marker before rounding the ‘keeper and knocking in his second of the game.
